Kal haven trail parking9/7/2023 ![]() ![]() Whether you're looking for a relaxing family stroll, a journey into nature, an extensive workout or a bike route to work-the KRV Trail awaits your visit. Operated as a Kalamazoo County Park, the KRV Trail is free to use and offers something for everyone. As funds and property become available the trail will continue to grow, realizing a vision that has been in the works since 1991. These two segments are connected by a signed-route throughout downtown Kalamazoo, featuring the Arcadia Creek Festival Place as well as many places to eat and shop. in Galesburg to D Avenue, traveling through River Oaks County Park, Mayors' Riverfront Park, Verburg Park, along Riverview Dr., and heading north along Markin Glen County Park and the Kalamazoo Nature Center. You can also enjoy a section that connects 35th St. One stretch begins at 10th Street, heading east from the Kal-Haven Caboose and stretching 4.8 miles to Westnedge Ave. This existing trail and planned trails in other counties will connect more than 140 miles of trails-connecting together the Battle Creek Linear Park, the Kal-Haven Trail, and the Portage Bicentennial Park Trail.Ĭurrently, there are 24 miles complete of this non-motorized, paved-asphalt trail. Kalamazoo will be a regional hub, connecting Battle Creek to Lake Michigan, D Avenue to Portage, Augusta to Gull Lake, and eventually Lake Michigan to Lake Huron. Taken together, the entire effort will cost approximately $1.4 to $1.8 million.The Kalamazoo River Valley Trail will encompass 35 miles of trail throughout Kalamazoo County. Final cost will also vary based on the final route selected.Īdditionally, plans call for building a small endowment fund which will help fund operational maintenance of the trail system and sport courts over time. Most of the asphalt trails will be 8 or 10 feet wide, depending on the requirements of the agency providing grant funding for the project. The new plan calls for more recreational facilities, including an enhanced trail way that connects Texas Township trails to those in Portage to the East, Oshtemo to the North, and Mattawan to the West. ![]() To respond to the growing demand for trails and other recreational opportunities, Texas Township updated its five-year Parks and Recreation plan in 2009 after extensive community input. ![]() As a result, our citizens have a lack of recreational opportunities, safe pathways for local pedestrian traffic, and community connectors that entice local residents out of their homes and into our neighborhoods. Unlike other local communities, Texas Township does not have a comprehensive trail system and has only one park, which is heavily used. The caboose serves as a visitors center in Bloomingdale. For a number of years now, Texas Township residents have been seeking improved park space and paved recreational trails for our community. The Kal-Haven Trail is built on the abandoned Kalamazoo & South Haven Railroad which existed from 1870 to 1970. ![]()
