Carbonite backup reviews9/7/2023 ![]() ![]() I then timed how long it took to retrieve a file stored in the cloud to an Android tablet and a MacBook Air. To evaluate these online backup services, I timed a series of backups and file restorations using a Windows 10 laptop. Acronis goes a step further by using blockchain technology to make sure that the backup you need to rebuild your system hasn’t been tampered with. One thing all of the vendors share is an emphasis on security, with data encrypted both in transit and during storage on their servers. Acronis, IDrive and Mozy charge on a per-gigabyte basis but are less restrictive about what you can save. Of the four remaining products, Carbonite offers unlimited storage but restricts the types of files you can back up. CrashPlan offers AES-256 encryption and a private key option. Deleted files are kept available, unless you specifically ask that they be truly deleted. Linux devices can be backed up, which is rare among the services tested. Pricing is $10 per month per device, but you get unlimited storage and no file-type restrictions, and any external hard drives connected to a device are backed up at no extra charge. You'll read about Carbonite in this review here are some pertinent things to know about CrashPlan for Small Business. In its place, it is recommending that existing customers migrate to CrashPlan for Small Business or to its “exclusive partner,” Carbonite. 22, Code42 began phasing out CrashPlan for Home and the product will stop working on Oct. We removed that review from the story, but we do provide some details about CrashPlan’s surviving small-business product below. I also tested a fifth product, Code42’s CrashPlan for Home, but after the review was done and before publication, Code42 announced that it is phasing out CrashPlan for Home and will stop selling that product as of Oct. It’s good protection at a good price, with no hardware required, and has the ability to share saved files wherever you go.”įor this evaluation, I looked at products from four top vendors in the online backup world, according to Goodwin: Mozy, Carbonite, Acronis and IDrive. ![]() Phil Goodwin, research director of IDC’s Storage Systems and Software group, says, “Many small business owners use consumer backup services to protect their company’s data. Please download it from app store and let us know your feedback.I’m not alone in recognizing the benefits of online backup. We just release v4.2.313 which has the feature to view excel, word, pdf and other commonly used file format data. Please consider restoring file access on this app. This has taken me from a 5 star rating to1 star. With the tremendous number of apps that enhance accessibility on mobile devices, why would the developer not continue to allow file access without this extra step. I know that I can forward the files to myself via email or text, but that’s a step back, not an enhancement. Seeing file statistics does not help me at all. Having been able to access the thousands of files while away from my laptop was a tremendous help to my job and especially for customer inquiries. I recently renewed my subscription because I use this mobile app several times daily. We hope that you will continue be a valued customer and look forward to using the updated mobile app. We are happy to announce that Search is back in the latest version (4.0.312) of mobile app which is available in iOS and Android stores for download.Įngineering team is working on additional features such as previews of popular document types and ability to sort by other options than file name and those should be available in next couple of weeks. Reason for the four stars is that the search function is missing, like even the mobile web version has one, please add it back. I’m not sure as to why the app was dead for the past five years or so. Thanks dev team to bring back this wonderful app, using the site version is just horrendous to use while the app is so much better and uses less resources since you’re not opening a web browser to log in which can be a pain every time. ![]()
